Vestmannaeyjar's Children is about the love and struggles of family, friends, country and religion. Mix in a bunch of courage, dreams, and faith and you have the story of two families who bonded with a life long friendship in Iceland.
Sveinn Thordarson and Einar Erickson struggled with the Danish repression of the Icelandic people and the devastating effects of the tremendous natural catastrophes of the previous several decades. They struggled mightily under the repression of the state controlled church and their desire to practice their own faith. All of this coupled with talk around Vestmannaeyjar of a better place in far away America, generated dreams of life in a better place. With faith, hopes and courage these two families left their beloved homeland and sailed across the Atlantic to a better place. First settling in Spanish Fork, Utah and then later relocating to Cleveland, Utah. Vestmannaeyjar’s Children tells the story of the trials, accomplishments and love of God through their courageous life’s journey. ~ Pictures Of People And Places In The Story ~ [Not original with the book.] Sveinn & Helga Thordarson ~ Cleveland Co-operative Mercantile Cleveland Davis Hall ~ James & Hannah's Home After 1920 Vestmannaeyjar 1880 ~ Vestmannaeyjar 1912 Spanish Fork 1880-1920 ~ Vestmannaeyjar Illustration 1879 Spanish Fork 1880-1920 ~ Spanish Fork 1914 Cleveland Old School ~ Einar & Gudrun Eirikson Cleveland New School ~ James & Hannah's Gravestone Bishop Oveson ~ Arni and Solveig Family Arni Arnason ~ Solveig Sveinsdottir Gudny Arnadottir ~ Magnus Bjarnason Samuel Bjarnason ~ Gudmundur Gudmundsson Thorarinn Halfidasson |
